My Topic Introduction

Summary:

My project will consider humor as a way to present real life issues/cases. I'm going to use the animated show South Park that uses satire and dark humor to talk about real life issues. specifically, I'm going to look or take two episodes one called Butters very own episode(https://southpark.cc.com/episodes/8gq1cu/south-park-butters-very-own-episode-season-5-ep-14) and the second one The Jeffersons (https://southpark.cc.com/video-clips/9wihy8/south-park-he-s-not-black). Where in Butters episode it highlights the portrayal and how people see Puerto Ricans some people don't know but Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens and I'm going to take an account racial formation and how the US is othering its own population, how Puerto Ricans are being seen as other. ask for the Jefferson episode I'm going to consider racial formation but considering how the police generates and creates a case for African Americans even if they haven't done anything wrong. In this case being police brutality.

Why now?

This show has 20 something years and they have talked about literally everything so why now it is because these are themes and topics that are being talked about many years now and still, we have the same problems we have the same treatment with each other with ourselves and it is more than necessary to present these topics in different way and medium.

How am I going to approach it?

So, as I mentioned before I'm going to consider racial formation using an animated show that uses dark humor on how Puerto Ricans and Latino population are being again racialized in the United States and also considering racial formation but the treatment of the police on African Americans, also to create a Nuance argument I'm going to talk about a little on South Park being removed from regular TV and moving to streaming subscription-based service. so, it's a little bit of cancel culture too.

Why should we care?

you will ask yourself Oh yeah why should we care about and animated show this and that but this is not an ordinary show it has been running since 1997 even though it's no longer on TV it moved on to a streaming service but they still tackle and present current issues and uh way that for many might find offensive but literally is in your face they're just showing the reality of how life is. and that's why we should care because when we are presented with real life issues in a way that sometimes is uncomfortable seeing or hearing that's when we should have a conversation and start talking about it. and start having that mentality of how we can change or how can we solve the problem.
