The COVID-19 Impact On The Class Of 2020:

For my final assignment, I’ve decided to focus on the impact of COVID-19 on the High School class of 2020. Now, you may be wondering--why would I focus on this one group when we were all affected by it? Well, the answer is simple. Millions of 18-year-olds just stopped going to school more than halfway through their senior year, whilst still having to apply to colleges, miss out on their prom, and find out that all of their hard work up until this point wouldn’t really matter, because they would all receive a pass or fail option. Similarly, we were thrust into adult hood, and unfamiliar college campuses while suffering through depression, and staring at computer screens for hours. Now, supposedly on the other side of the pandemic--nearly 3 years later, I still feel like I will never be the same. We are all simply just surviving with new versions of ourselves, and I think this is the perfect time to address this issue.

Alternatively, there are obviously many side effects of the pandemic, but I have chosen to focus on The Direct Impact of not finishing the school year on our Mental Health, The Inability to Adjust to College (i.e-- in-person classes) , The Social Awkwardness, and fear of real-world interactions due to quarantine. These subgroups are the most common areas of impact amongst my friends and I. However, the sources I include in my presentation will contribute, and support evidence that shows the class of 2020 will continue to have issues in the future, and symptoms that they may never recover from--or even notice. Personalities have shifted because of this virus, and it is important that we stop making jokes about our trauma on Twitter, and actually discuss what we are going through because no generation has been through it before.

So far, the response on my topic has risen a lot of much-needed discussion, and nods of agreement from my peers as we reflect on how difficult of a time that was for most of us. Even someone like me, who was in therapy, continued to struggle, and I feel that dedicating my final project to this topic will open up a healthy, and necessary discussion.
